Doing vs. Teaching

Which do I like more: Doing or Teaching?

It’s a question I’ve been considering recently for a variety of reasons.

My business revenue (at the moment) is largely based on teaching people how to get clients from their content through my membership, coaching, etc.

But my most recent products - Email Templates That Turn Subscribers Into Buyers and a new writing partnership offer where I edit/improve people’s content for them - are both more on the “doing” end of the spectrum.

In some ways it’s a false choice because I enjoy both, can do both, and both drive results for the people who pay me.

But…

It’s possible I may have leaned too much into teaching when my preference might actually be doing?

I’m not sure.

As I pondered which I prefer I thought back to my time running digital media for The Oscars.

I had a team under me, the ability to hire agencies if I wanted to (I didn’t), and every reason in the world to “teach” people how to do the writing and creative work for me.

And yet…

No matter how busy I was my favorite thing to do was to create some of the content myself.

Maybe that means something?
