A ranking of 5 albums I listened to this week:

  1. Exodus by Bob Marley

A classic with a few songs I’ve heard a million times before.

But my favorite song on the album is Turn Your Lights Down Low which gets a lot less attention (outside of a great Lauryn Hill cover that came out years later).

  1. The Romantic by Bruno Mars

Pop. Latin. Funk. Soul. R&B. Ballads.

Bruno’s one of those rare artists that can seemingly do anything (and everything).

There are no “bad” songs among the 9 on this album and even the ones that weren’t my favorites sound like hits.

I’m also a sucker for horns.

  1. The New Abnormal by The Strokes

I don’t remember hearing a lot about this when it came out in 2020 probably because we were all too busy trying not to catch COVID.

Anyway…

I liked this album way more than I expected to since I wasn’t a huge fan of the band in the first place.

But this had an unexpected 80s feel including some stuff that vaguely reminded me of The Cure.

It’s really good and I’ll listen to it again at some point.

  1. Black Pumas by Black Pumas

“Colors” is a great song. The rest of this is just a bunch of ok songs.

A little disappointed by it because I had higher expectations.

  1. The Fall-Off by J. Cole

I want to like J. Cole.

I like what he represents and he’s clearly a good rapper.

But…

The music is monotonous and boring which is an issue I find with so much new hip hop these days.

I was ready for this one to end almost as soon as it began.
